Our city’s 9-hole waterfront golf course was recently transformed in a master plan prepared by Jordan Golf Design and presented at a public meeting in February. The master plan showed a major course redesign and ‘greening’, highlighted by the use of wastewater effluent for irrigation, improved drainage, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, and water quality through the use of a network of vegetated drainage swales and meadows, and increasing course revenues through the development of a driving range. Golfers in attendance at the meeting were, for the most part, very enthusiastic about the design. Implementation of the plan will be considered by City officials, the Friends of Newman, and CWTI during 2008. This project was funded by a grant from the Park Foundation.
